This central space was a tired waiting room and reception that was surplus to requirements. The space has been enlarged and new windows formed to create a space that can be used for socialising as well as work whether it be informal meetings or accessing the internet as part of the student’s research. It is flexible in its use and has become a popular place for students and staff to use.
Services provided: project management
The challenges: Working in a 1970’s building with a novel form of construction that limited the opportunity to alter the spaces. Construction work was undertaken during the summer vacation to minimise impact on student work.
Outcomes: The Institute restructure combined with the refurbishments provided the department with the opportunity to provide an enhanced student experience.
